UEC, a unit of Russia's Rostec, is showing the same outfit as the AL-51-F1 (product-30) at the Zhuhai Air Show 2024; the 177S turbo fan engine that has been silenced with axial symmetric vectors nozzle, officially positioning it as the fifth generation engine and actively striving to be the power source for China's " 殲20" fighter.
According to United Engines Manufacturing, the 177S Turbine engine has better technical characteristics, including thrust, fuel consumption and service life, a significant improvement over the previous generation powertrain. Its military thrust is 9000 kg; maximum after-combustion thrust is 1,4500 kg, design life is 6,000 hours, more than three times that of the previous generation. Reduced fuel consumption in all operating modes ( ≤11,200 kg per hour fuel consumption at maximum after-burning thrust) helps reduce operating costs and increase range. The fan structure design ensures the safe operation of the engine inhaling foreign matter. Equipped with "full power digital engine control system" (FADEC) and a backup hydraulic mechanical control system. The end point is that the 117S is the same size and weight as the AL-31F engine, ensuring full interchangeability with the engines in use today and can be considered an alternative upgrade to the AL-31F/N series and 117S.
